About Ledgerline

Ledgerline is an independent guide to pensions for people who work for themselves in Ireland: sole traders, contractors and freelancers.

Why we exist

When My Future Fund launched in January 2026, it brought most employees into a workplace pension automatically. The self-employed were left out: no employer, no auto-enrolment, no state top-up. Saving for retirement is still possible and often tax-efficient, but you have to set it up yourself, and the rules are not easy to find in plain English.

We write the guides we wish we'd had: what a PRSA is, how tax relief works at each age, what to ask a provider, and the deadlines that matter.

Who we are

Ledgerline is run by an independent publisher.

How we check our facts

Every guide is written from primary sources and re-checked after each Budget. We are working towards independent review of our guides by a qualified financial adviser, and will name them here when that is in place.

How we write and check our guides

What we are not

Ledgerline publishes general information. We are not a financial adviser, broker or pension provider, and we are not authorised by the Central Bank of Ireland to give financial advice. Nothing on this site is a recommendation to buy a particular product. For advice on your circumstances, speak to an adviser authorised by the Central Bank of Ireland.

How we are funded

Ledgerline is funded by advertising shown on the site. Ads are clearly separated from our guides.

Advertisers and partners have no say over what we write.
